Global Warming Denial

"There are data from NASA, which is the North American Space Agency, and they show that in the last 18 years there was no general global warming." (Prof. Claudia von Werlhof) https://www.globalresearch.ca/climate-disruption-its-not-due-to-co2/5677036?utm_campaign=magnet&utm_source=article_page&utm_medium=related_articles

If one goes to the NASA GLOBAL Land-Ocean Temperature Index at  https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/tabledata_v4/GLB.Ts+dSST.txt  and compares the last 9 years (2016-2024) with the previous 9 years (2007-2015), the average temperature anomaly for the last 9 years was .993 C (D-N column) versus .667 C for the previous 9 years for an average increase of .316 C /9 years. This equates to 3.51 C per 100 years. Comparing this to the last full natural cycle we go from (2.72 C) at 141,000 years ago to 2.68 C at 123,000 years ago for an increase of 5.40 C/18,000 years. This equates to .03 C per 100 years (See  https://www.temperaturerecord.org/ ). In other words, the temperature increase over the last 9 years versus the previous 9 years was 105 times the historical natural average rate of increase. For the last 18 years (2007-2024) versus the previous 18 years (1989-2006) the average increase was 72 times the natural rate of increase. These significant increases are consistent with accelerated warming resulting from ongoing massive greenhouse gas emissions resulting in greenhouse gas levels far in excess of historical levels. How this NASA temperature data can be interpreted by Claudia von Werlhof as no global warming over the last 18 years is a bit of a mystery. Obviously, it can't. Apparently, Professor von Werlhof simply repeats nonsense she has heard from other academic deniers without even a hint of due diligence.

"In general, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is about 0.038 % only.  Most of that is vapour, water vapour, some 80 or 70%.  So, this tiny amount of CO2 cannot change something huge like the climate of this planet. This is impossible." (Prof. Claudia von Werlhof)  https://www.globalresearch.ca/climate-disruption-its-not-due-to-co2/5677036?

I provided this second quote primarily to highlight the incredible hubris of emeritus Professor von Werlhof and other highly educated warming deniers who spout utter B.S. with complete certitude. The notion that a rapid increase of about 50% in greenhouse gas levels cannot possibly have an impact on climate is idiotic. I am not sure what she means with her water vapor remark so I'll let it pass. The fact that this was published in globalresearch.ca suggests that Michel Chossudovsky may have succumbed to peer group beliefs rather than rational analysis. We are living in turbulent and rapidly changing times where, apparently, opportunism and group loyalty shape the discourse and intellectual integrity is an increasingly rare commodity. As such, we need to rely upon common sense to analyze what data is available.

This opportunistic bias of so-called "experts" is no small matter. One cannot correctly assess reality when one's perception of reality is based upon misinformation provided by these "experts." One needs to evaluate these frequently contradictory opinions based upon a broad evaluation of reasonableness. It is an established fact that greenhouse gases (including water vapor) trap some of the solar radiation which would otherwise radiate into space. It is common sense that increasing the concentration of these greenhouse gases would increase planetary heating which, in turn, would impact the climate. The question becomes one of magnitude. A negligible effect on the climate or a big one?

If one goes to  https://www.temperaturerecord.org/  (which has multiple useful links) and to https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/tabledata_v4/GLB.Ts+dSST.txt  it quickly becomes apparent that fossil fuel usage has massively effected the natural carbon dioxide cycle beginning in about 1850 and rapidly increasing in  present times. From 1850 to 1900, we went from 285 ppm to 296 ppm for an 11 ppm increase in 50 years (22 ppm/100) which equates to 40 times the natural rate of increase. From 1900 to 1950, we went from 296 ppm to 311 ppm for a 15 ppm increase in 50 years (30 ppm/100) which equates to 55 times the natural rate of increase. From 1950 to 2000, we went from 311 ppm to 369 ppm for a 58 ppm increase in 50 years (116 ppm/100) which equates to 210 times the natural rate of increase and still growing. It should be obvious that the current accumulation of greenhouse gases is orders of magnitude above the natural rate of increase during the normal cyclical warming following an ice age. And while annual temperature variations exist, they can be more-or-less accounted for by using average temperatures over a reasonable period. Historically, 25-50 years worked well, however, currently the increases have accelerated so much that shorter time frames are needed to account for these rapid changes which have to a large degree overwhelmed natural variation. Beginning in 1970, the 5 year average temperature has increased, the last 5 years significantly with no end in site.  This is why I am upset when some folks so dramatically misrepresent current climate reality. And that includes the "left environmentalists" like Al Gore who promotes fantasies about halting and reversing global warming in order to promote his elite agenda.
